Learn 4 Life Lesson #24: How to stop bleeding!

Miss Elisa is our fabulous Learn 4 Life teacher and every week she enters our classroom and offers us a great life skill lesson.  This week:  How to stop bleeding.  Here are the steps to handle an emergency situation when bleeding is involved:
1) STAY CALM
2) MAKE SURE YOU'RE SAFE!
3) PUT ON GLOVES
4) CALL 911 or CALL OUT FOR AN ADULT AT HOME
5) APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BLEEDING AREA by WRAPPING IT IN A BANDAGE/CLOTH
6) WAIT FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

See how Rm 13 used their knowledge to practice first aid training!  Way to go Rm 13!

Learning About Native Plants when The Columbia Slough came to Rm 13!

The Columbia Slough which is at the old Whitaker School site, right on Whitaker Ponds, off Columbia Blved came to Rm 13 yesterday to teach us about RIPARIAN plants!  We explored the native plants of Portand and our beautifulforests.  We learned that ENGLISH IVY and HIMALAYAN BLACKBERRY are invasive plants that can be very harmful to other plants and species!  Ewww...cut down that English Ivy and pull Himalayan Blackberry whenever you see it!  We will be visiting the Slough in a couple weeks to learn more about MACRO-INVERTEBRATES!
